The Story of L'Aubergine Catering
L'Aubergine Catering got its start over 20 years ago in Laramie, Wyoming, where Sheryl Black was living while her husband was in graduate school. Before moving to Laramie, Sheryl had traveled extensively in Europe and had lived in the Middle East, New York City, and Chicago. Dissatisfied with Laramie's limited cultural resources, Sheryl took to cooking foods from all over the world and soon had a local reputation as an excellent cook. After catering a couple of small events as favors for friends, Sheryl started cooking professionally. She named her company L'Aubergine ("LOH-ber-zheen"), the French word for eggplant, symbolizing her love of both French and Middle Eastern cooking.
L'Aubergine moved to California in 1981, and has been serving the East Bay and surrounding communities ever since.
